Great food. I don't understand the past reviews and why they felt it was lack luster. I've been here several times over the past year and each time has been an excellent experience. This includes coming here during the world cup when the place was considerably busy.
I don't drink so I can't comment on the margaritas but the tacos have always been nothing better stellar with a quick turn around time.
While I don't want to discredit the previous negative reviews I question if they were exaggerated based on my own experiences here. -

I do not know how they are still in business. Oh I know, they took the small business loan the city was offering to businesses.
The menus are held together with taps, the tables and chairs haven't been wiped down in months, the atmosphere is old and dingy, the food is OK at best and the clientele are a bunch of drunks at the bar. Do NOT bring your family. Go somewhere else. -

Visited this PLACE this evening as we have in the past on numerous occasions....tonight was totally different. The normal gentleman that is behind the bar was running around like a mad man as were the rest of the staff...owner included. No rhyme or reason on the service. We sat at the bar as we ALWAYS do. Finally we were waited on after about 10 minutes. From that point it was the most horrible service ever.
We were brought chips and salsa and one drink.
We FINALLY after about 25 minutes were asked if we wanted anything else....we ordered Queso which we got with NO more chips. While sitting at the bar a large palmetto bug actually ran across my arm. The so called female owner manager said oh we just sprayed for bugs yesterday with terminex... I doubt it! She was not a friendly at all. Very cold and no smiles until we asked her way she seemed angry.
We were there for about an hour with NO ONE asking us if we wanted anything further.
I went to the NASTIEST RESTROOM ever only to return to the owner mgr. and her "husband " telling my boyfriend he was drunk and they were going to call the police all because he told them we had HORRIBLE service.
He was not drunk by any means.... they then proceeded to follow him out and take a picture if his car and tag saying they were calling the cops.
I will end this by saying this place is a disgrace. Its dirty ,bathrooms and roaches crawling around the place and the bad attitude of the owner and very scattered staff. If they really are moving to Cleveland Street as they have said since last year they have a lot of improvements to accomplish. We will never go there again. It's very sad that establishments like this get away with this kind if service. I would give NO stars if I could. -

******UPDATE*****. 07/24/19 ----- Our favorite hole in the wall has gone down, down, down. The building condition is appalling. The women's restroom has been closed for months, forcing women to use the men's restroom that does NOT lock. Not only is that gross, it's not safe. They must some kind of "special" deal with the health inspector because there is no way this place should still be open. The last time we were there we had the unfortunate experiences and sat right by the men's restroom door. Our entire meal we had to tell would-be restroom users whether there was someone using the restroom or if it was free. There were a couple times men walked in on women and vice versa despite our verbal updates to them.
There are cobwebs and a thick layer of gooey funk on the decor. Tables are swollen and bumpy where liquid has seeped into laminate edges. Tablecloth's are burned. Menus are far and few between. They are falling apart, taped up.
If you have a bad back....avoid the booths! When someone sits behind you, expect to be bumped in the air. Every movement can be felt. The AC may work...but not when we went the last few times.
As for staff and food....all the good waitstaff has left. Good luck getting refills on drinks. The food was oily and no longer fresh. Once upon a time this place was busy, but now the food has time to age...and not in a good way. The food is just kinda of "meh."
The margaritas used to be amazing and pack a punch. Now they are pre-made and watered down. I used to get two every time and stopped getting any the last few times we went.
Avoid this place at all cost. They've been "moving" to a new location for more than a year...but haven't...and seriously ignored their current location. You could not pay me to visit this restaurant any more and that is sad.
Oh my gosh! Ignore the 3 1/2 stars. To think we almost didn't come here. It's amazing!
The chips are fresh. The queso has just the right amount of kick. My husband goes through the salsa like he's drinking it with a straw.
We have tried several plates. My husband has like everything he's tried but his favorite is Pollo Mexicano.
My favorite and now everything order is the Grilled Salad with steak. Think fajitas without tortillas or rice and beans. Divine! Traditionally off the menu it's steak and onions but they are willing to do some changes. So I get it with zucchini, broccoli and onions. I don't think I will ever order anything different.
The jumbo margaritas are huge. Just once it was awful...but they were slammed and the waiter promptly took it off t. Then shyly admitted they didn't have a bartender that night and he forgot to put the sweet and sour mix in it. Everyone makes mistakes...and the next fantastic margarita made me quickly forget the oops.
This is now our favorite local, neighborhood food. I'd say it's authentic Mexican food....not TexMex, not American style. The simple flavors, in my opinion, are the hardest to make great. We come 2-3 times a week now. -

AVOID AT ALL COST !!! Service is Horrible !!!
I walked in with my family and immediately I noticed the place is a run down dump. We walked in and the first person to see us was at the bar and he just pointed us to a table. We sat ourselves, the table was filthy and sticky. the first waitress asked us for drinks and told the second waitress to give us menus in which she threw the menus, utensils, napkins at me and scattered all over my table. I felt so disrespected I just took my family and left. I DO NOT RECOMMEND !!!. If I can give this place a zero star I would. HORRIBLE SERVICE !!!. I will never come back.
